Logan community can expect big changes from Al's

Al’s Sporting Goods announced on Wednesday it had purchased a 10-acre block on the corner of 1000 North Main Street in Logan.

According to information provided by Al’s, the site includes plans for a new 130,000-square-foot retail center as well as a new 60,000-square-foot store.

Construction will begin in June and is projected to be completed in the spring of 2014. Most of the buildings in the location will be demolished to make room for the new structure.

It is unclear what will happen to the businesses that are currently on the block. The area includes Carousel Carpets, El Toro Viejo, Logan Burgers, Tuscan Sun Salon, Weight Watchers and the plasma donation center.

“We heard the announcement the same time as everyone else,” said Joshua Corbridge, who works at the plasma center. “I don’t know if we will relocate or what we’ll do. It’s scary to think that I might be out of a job in just a couple of months.”

There are a lot of changes in motion with the announcement, Larsen wrote, but Al’s is working hard to find solutions for all the businesses that will be affected.

“Our staff is excited,” he wrote. “In the future we hope the Logan community will get excited too.”
