Friday house show will feature Desert Noises

A house show will be held Friday night at the former Chi Omega sorority house, headlined by the Northplatt Records band Desert Noises.

Two local bands will accompany the Provo-based group at the event scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

Freshman Camie Oka scheduled Horse Bones and Children of the North to play alongside Desert Noises at the show, which will be held at 743 N. 800 East.

After attending other house shows, Oka said that she and some roommates figured they could do better.

“The locations of the house parties are really small and people never all fit, so we thought ‘why not have one at our house?’” Oka said. “The place we live at used to be a sorority house, so it’s pretty huge.”

Oka wanted a signed band to play at the show, so she sent Desert Noises an email requesting it to make an appearance. She said she was surprised to find that the group responded to her request. The three-man band agreed to perform and she was then able to approach the other two bands.

Horse Bones got its start in Dallas, Texas but later moved to northern Utah to record its music. The group will soon be releasing its debut album “Peninsula.”

The band Children of the North is made up of the childhood friends of Camille Boyce, one of Oka’s 23 roommates. The band members include USU students McKay Felt on guitar and vocals, Emily Andrews on vocals and Tyler Andrews on the piano.

“The lead singer in the band was my best friend since second grade, so it’s fun to go and support them when they play,” Boyce said. “They aren’t afraid to be silly, dance and have fun.”

Oka said that all of the bands performing have an alternative feel but mix it up with upbeat songs.

“There was a lot of high energy at our last concert, so we’re going to try and make it fun and energetic with an intimate setting,” Felt said. “The other bands that are coming are solid and fun, so it’ll be a really fun show.”

The event is open to the public and Oka estimated that more than 60 people will attend.

“I’m super excited and just completely shocked that it all worked out,” Oka said.
